What We're Working On

$8 M IN FEMA HAZARD MITIGATION GRANTS SINCE 2022

Seattle OEM has received about $8M in FEMA hazard mitigation grants since 2022 to fund projects and planning that reduce natural hazard risks in the city.

$1.4M RCPG GRANTS IN 2024

The Regional Catastrophic Planning Grant for Resilience Hubs helps Puget Sound communities build local resilience to prepare for, respond to, and recover from major hazards.

Cool and Clean Air in Libraries

In 2024, Seattle OEM, in collaboration with Seattle Public Libraries, received grant funding to outfit five local branches with air conditioning and modern ventilation systems. These sites will serve as cooling centers during times of extreme heat and wildfire smoke.

Apartment Seismic Retrofit

In 2023, Seattle OEM partnered with Capitol Hill Housing, a local nonprofit housing provider, to protect the Bremer Apartments building against earthquake damage with the help of FEMA mitigation grant funding.

What We Do

For the Public:

  • We partner with the community to prepare for, respond to, mitigate the impacts of, and recover from disasters.
  • We anticipate future disasters and take preventive and preparatory measures to build disaster-resistant and disaster-resilient communities, including education and hands on skills training.

For Emergency Management Professionals:

  • OEM collaborates with city departments, non-profits, hospitals, schools, and other community partners to create effective emergency management strategies.
  • The mission of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is to coordinate information, resources and plans of action in times of emergency.
